uhhh, terry?

apparently its been since april since ive "web logged" or "blogged" as you people are calling it these days. either that means ive been pretty happy about stuff and really havent wanted to rant about things or ive just been calmly but violently mad about pretty much anything involving music, technology and pretty much everything else. my advice to you is to not turn 27.

race and music

i was watching cable tv last night and i saw a riveting interview of a new chart topping rapper vanilla ice. Provocative talk show host Arsenio Hall was pissed that vanilla ice was white. Arsenio hall is black. Therefore its okay for him to not like white people.

i didnt mean to turn you on

so i posted a song by robert palmer earlier. i was complaining about how i would rather listen to the original artists of a good song rather than some indie kids trying to sound like it. then i figured out that the robert palmer track was a cover song itself. feel kind of stupid.

but i guess the lesson today is that ALOT of people do covers and ALOT of people borrow music from other people. it's going to keep happening. if you play music think about why you started playing in the first place. it was probably because you liked other peoples music, wanted to learn how to play it, then maybe wanted to make your own.

heres the youtube of the original track (sony/bmg wont let you embed videos) check the robert palmer cover a few posts below

Cherrelle- I Didnt mean to Turn You On

sxsw

i was actually going to start writing some blogs now to help me come out of my "almost end of winter/start of spring" depression and i was going to start by talking about some SXSW things, but hipsterrunoff.com beat me to it. and carles basically said exactly what i wanted to say.

**When do events go from ‘being authentic’ to ‘being totes fake and filled with mainstreamers’?
I just want to know what ‘the tipping point’ is
and what causes it
so that I could prevent it from happening

SXSW is funnie
because everything is a ‘planned surprise’
and everything is ‘free’ but ‘not really’
and everything is ‘exciting’ but ‘predictable’
and everything is ‘viral buzz’ but rlly just ‘marketing’

Festivals and conferences start out ‘being authentic incubators of cool culture’
but then the mainstreamers think they can participate
immersing themselves in ‘cutting edge cultural events’
slowly causing the fabric of what made something great
2 unravel

Woodstock 99
SXSW 2010
Pitchfork Festival 2015
Lollapalooza 200_
Coachella 200_
Austin City Limits 2005

They say that once a Wireless Telecommunications Provider
is a prominent sponsor of your entity
then u have ‘made it’
but u will soon lose what once made u so great.

Everything has a ‘useful life’
Kinda sad abt that**

i really wish i would have checked out more shows when we played a few years ago down there rather than getting tattoos and drinking tequilla based slushees.

check out some of k-duncs pics of D.Bag Navarro.
